I know it's silly to get sentimental about a car but I really was sad to sell my RAV4. I guess it's all the memories that I had during the 7 years I owned it. Here's my snazzy new Camry! I haven't had a car for about 15 years having had my truck and then the SUV.

Yes, this hottie is a male. All the entertainers were quite good and this particular singer really knew how to strut her? stuff!

This was a really fun event with great French food, lots of fun stuff to buy and great entertainment. I think it will become an annual event for me.

Dizzy's 60th Birthday in Mission Bay

What a beautiful setting for a birthday party! It was so much fun to see Dizzy, Sabrina and Shannon and meet all their kids.
Dizzy and I have been friends for about 20 years. We worked together and spent many holidays together but haven't seen each other for about 10 years. She lives in Ohio now with her daughter Shannon and family.
That's Victoria, Karlee, Sara and Olivia (twins) and Tyler - five of Dizzy's 7 grandchildren.
This is Oliver. He was a Mother's Day gift to Dizzy and is so darn cute! Look at that hair! He's a pretty special pup as he got to fly from Ohio to spend the week in Mission Bay for the party.

Arizona - Brittany's Graduation

Marv and I went to Arizona for Brittany's graduation. Marv, Jeff and Tony spent the day on the golf course while we were getting ready for the party. There was a bit of excitment a couple of doors down the street - a man had stabbed himself in the abdomen and his wife was running around yelling for help. I thought she was just some crazy woman but apparently she had come into the garage and found her husband with this huge knife in his stomach. Luckily, Jennifer had watched enough Grey's Anatomy to know we shouldn't pull it out and we called the paramedics for the woman and the man is okay.

This is my lovely friend Rose. We were celebrating her 91st birthday in Santa Barbara. I met Rose a few years ago and she holds a special place in my heart.

Marv and I went to spend the day with the Bolks family a few weeks ago. Going to dinner with the whole crew is always an adventure. This is Maria's sister Nicholette and below is Rich and Maria.
It's tough to get my mother to smile but here she is on her birthday and she looks pretty happy!
Ruth is my mom's best friend and has been part of my life as long as I can remember. Her daughter Kathy is Mark's Godmother.

This is Trisha at her baby shower given by her mother-in-law and I in Santa Monica. She looks beautiful as a pregnant lady. Trisha has been part of my family since she and Mark were in High School together. I'm very proud of the woman she's become and I can't wait to be a pseudo-grandma!
This is on the Sundial Bridge over the Sacramento River in Redding. I was at a conference there for the California Employer Advisory Council. Oh and by the way, I was voted the incoming President for the next two years! Pretty cool!

We actually did work at this conference but those pictures aren't any fun. This is my friend Hope and Lynne at the wine tasting social in Redding at the Turtle Bay Museum on the river.
Well, who is this cute guy? That's Rusty - the newest member of Marv's family. You can't really tell from this picture but his face is sort of wrinkly because he is part Sharpei. He is going to be a tank - you should see his feet!

Stagecoach Music Festival

The final day of Stagecoach had Gretchen Wilson, Carrie Underwood, Trace Atkins, Big and Rich and Tim McGraw. Mark had an extra ticket so I got to go.

Tyler is Mark's God-Daughter and he got tickets for her and her friends for the concert. They had a tough time staying awake.

Oooops, looks like Mark had a tough time staying awake too. Poor guy, he went to 3 days of Coachella the weekend before these 3 days of Stagecoach. Guess 6 days of concerts in 10 days took it's toll on him.

We took a rickshaw ride to see the Hutong area. This area is just outside of the Forbidden City. How would you like to cook in this kitchen? Everything is very small but this is how the "Common People" live.
The girls always attracted attention everywhere they went and people would look at Donna and I wondering what the heck we were doing with these Chinese kids????

More Beijing China

This was my favorite place in Beijing. It the Summer Palace where the Imperial Family went to vacation. The story is that one of the Emperor's was 5 years old when he became an Emperor so his mother, the Empress Dowager (aka Dragon Lady) really ruled the country. She is not well loved as she spent way too much of China's money enlarging this Summer Palace among other things (she loved pearls and jade). The lake was enlarged and lots of temples built for visiting monks from Tibet and Mongolia. The place is huge but very beautiful and serene.

This is a boat made all of marble - looks great but couldn't be used as it would sink. Another senseless expense by Dragon Lady.
This corridor at the Summer Palace goes on for more than a mile and each of the beams above you is handpainted with different scenes.

Beijing China

These gas masks were in the closet of the first hotel we got to in Beijing. It was sort of scary. Donna moved us the next morning to a 5 star hotel that was very nice. I never did find out what the gas masks were for!
This is the hotel we moved to. It was closer to some of the tourist stuff and we could walk to the stores. Do you see Gwen and Maddy at the right?
Yes, this is the squatty potty that the Chinese use. You have to stradle the sides and squat. Some of the children wear "split pants" that are open and they just squat and do their business because that area of their pants is open. Pretty interesting!
Yes, I did walk on the Great Wall. It's one of the seven wonders of the world and is in length the equivalent of the distance from San Francisco to New York. I was complaining about the steps as they are all different heights and very difficult to walk up and down. The guide told us they were built that way to keep the approaching enemy army from being able to get a rythym.

Fun in Hong Kong

This is the hotel we are staying at in Hong Kong and there's a mall attached that has all these cheesy areas to take photos - apparently lots of weddings use this mall for their photos. It's the year of the rat so I guess it's good luck to have your picture taken with the bride and groom rat?

I found a place to get a massage within the first 24 hours of being here. It was $24 for one hour of bliss. I really needed to get the kinks out after that long plane ride to get here.

Sightseeing in Hong Kong

The McDonalds here sells these cups of corn and this is a floating restaurant we saw while touring the fisherman's village. Families that make a living by fishing live on their boats in this village.

This is one of Hong Kong's beach resorts - you know how I love the beach! Fung Shei is taken seriously here as one of these buildings was built with a hole (about 5 stories tall) to leave room for the dragon that lives in the mountains to get through to the water.

Kelli - Texas - Wine Tasting

For whatever reason I can't seem to post these pictures in order. This is Phyllis' place in Texas. It's an adorable guest house in Fredericksburg which is between Austin and San Antonio. It's great to take a relaxing bubble bath after wearing yourself out shopping all the great stores in this fun tourist town.

There really is a Luckenback Texas that Willie Nelson sings about. Dooley's is the old fashioned five and dime store in town. It has everything - remember those?

Phyllis made me hike this huge mountain - actually it's about 500 feet up this solid granite rock which is the largest piece of granite in the United States. It's called Enchanted Rock and I almost made it to the top. Going up was not too bad but it's pretty steep coming down!!!

This is the front yard of a bed and breakfast where deers roam with miniature donkeys, camels (yes, camels) and ostrich. They all seem to get along pretty well.

BarBQ is serious business here in Texas. It looked so good we ordered an obscene amount of meat.

Back home here's a picture of Marv and I along with his son Jeremy and Ashley. We had a fun everning out drinking margaritas!
This is a couple of picture from our wine tasting excursion in Temecula. The occasion was to celebrate with our friend Mary that retired from her job. It was a fun day sampling too much wine and enjoying the great weather.

It's been many months since I have posted to this blog and as you can see I still don't know how to post the pictures so they make any sense. That's Micah playing the guitar. The handsome guy with me is Marv.

I was lucky enough to spend a few days with Tyler this Christmas. He wasn't this tall the last time I saw him. Kelli is all grown up and expecting her own baby in May. My mom and dad with all their Christmas gifts.

Everyone has to pick a card and that determines who gets to open their gifts first. Mark started this tradition a few years ago so we always have to get a goofy picture with the cards.

Keely with my Christmas crown was not too happy. The pic below is of Marv and his 2 sons, Jeremy and Taylor along with Tyler.

Debbie and Tony were here for Christmas and this picture is at the place where we went to play pool on Sunday night.

Our annual Mom and Daughter luncheon at the Mission Inn was smaller this year as we were missing Ruth, Kathy, Lauren and Karlee.

Gene's granddaughters (Brandy Jean and Joy) came a couple of weeks ago and spent some time with me. We went to hear some Christmas music, drove to the Mission Inn in our pj's to see all the lights and they were my official ribbon girls when I wrapped all the Christmas gifts. It's just not Christmas unless you have some kids around.

I have to say that this was the best Christmas season I have had for many years. I am very blessed to have been able to spend time with those I love most and am so thankful for all I have.

Memorial Day Weekend in Santa Barbara

This is Robert and Alex at the Mission in Santa Barbara. They had tons of artists painting streetscapes for the holiday weekend. Alex saw Roberts camera and they took about 900 pictures during the day. She looks like a "natural" doesn't she?

My mom and dad weren't really into the paintings. Looks like mom is searching for something in her purse and that is a sucker in her mouth not a cigarette.

Eyelash Extensions?????

One of the signs of aging is that you seem to lose your eyelashes so imagine my excitement at learning about these extensions. It takes 3 hours to put them on initially and then about 1 hour every 3 weeks to keep them looking good. They are attached with some Korean glue to your own lashes so when your lashes fall out so do these. I think they look great. No more mascara!!!

Dad's Birthday and Mother's Day

This is my dad with his Harry James CD collection I bought him for his birthday. He's pretty tough to buy for these days but seemed happy to get these CDs of music he loved in his wild days.
We are all at a Mother's Day Tea that the Rotary put on in Hemet. My friend Robin is the President this year so we were blessed to get to spend time with her mom and daughters along with Val and her daughter. That's my mom on the right. She never smiles.

The "Prince" Party

Jack Prince introduced my parents to each other 52 years ago. He was with my dad the night I was born and has been in our lives as long as I can remember. Jack celebrated his 75th birthday and these are pictures of the party. This is Jack's house in Palm Desert. It's the most fabulous house I have ever seen. The house is over 12,000 square feet. The floors and walls are either marble, granite or onyx. A water filled moat surrounds the entire house. It has it's own tennis court and guest house. The pool extends almost the entire length of the house and has a swim-to bar. The waterfall on one end is incredible. The party was great with stories about how Jack was found on the courthouse steps as an abandoned infant and grew up very poor. He turned out to be a very astute businessman in auto sales among other ventures and is now a millionaire many times over. He's married to Avis and they are celebrating 23 years of marriage. The party was a great tribute to Jack who clearly has maintained many friendships and business partnerships throughout his life.

Make a Wish and Family Weekend

These pictures are Chad (my wish kid) arriving in a limo with his family at Guitar Center for a shopping spree. Chad loves to play the drums and his favorite band is KISS. Through connections at Guitar Center a special guest was also there to greet Chad, Eric Singer who has been a drummer with KISS and many other bands. Chad got to chat with Eric, got lots of pictures and Eric had some special gifts for him too. After Eric left Chad got to work on his shopping spree. After a few hours at Guitar Center the limo picked everyone up and returned the family to Chad's house where about 50 of his friends and more family were waiting to celebrate the day with a pizza party. Chad goes to Minnesota for surgery in a few weeks and may wake up from his surgery without his leg. He has a rare form of cancer so we are hoping for the best and praying for him and his family.

The rest of the weekend was spent between visiting with my parents, spending some time visiting with Debbie and family from Arizona and watching "The Ugly Dachsund" with Mark and Amanda.

Spring is Here!

I don't understand how to strategically place the pictures on this blog. The above pictures are from Balboa Park in San Diego. Robert took me to the Annie Liebowitz photo exhibit today. Besides my friend Wendy, she is my favorite photographer and I love her work. There were over 200 photos displayed and it was fabulous! In the park there is also an International Area that has seperate houses to depict different countries. They are staffed with volunteers and everyone has food to share and fun information about the country they represent. I especially loved visiting the Ireland house. We were curious about another area of the park that was an aircraft museum but all these younger people were flocking to it. We went and discovered they were having a fashion and lifestyle show. It was geared toward a younger, more hip crowd but we enjoyed the fashion show and of course, I found some things to buy too.

I can't believe how fast time goes by! Over the past few weeks I have lost a boss that I really admired and enoyed working with overnight. He just suddenly resigned and I didn't get to say goodbye. Last week my friend and co-worker Jocelyn, that I have worked with for the past 8 years, passed away of a sudden heart attack - she was 52 years old! Kelli turned 17 and is visiting her boyfriend who lives near me so it's nice to see her more often. Last weekend I spent in Santa Barbara with Rose. I had the opportunity to stay in a great hotel overlooking downtown San Diego and the bay from the 15th floor last week for a work related conference. Friday night I went to a Casino Night for the Chamber of Commerce and won a few thousand (play dollars) on the BlackJack tables. My dealer was a dream because he sort of "advised" me when I should take a hit or stand!! One of my Make a Wish kids will be getting his wish next weekend - a shopping spree at Guitar Center and I get to participate in his wish party after the shopping spree. I met with another young lady that has cancer and we will be working on her wish over the next few weeks. My volunteer work with the Make a Wish Foundation and the Human Society is so rewarding and I meet some great people.

Mark's 30th Birthday Party Weekend

Mark turned 30 on March 24th and had a great birthday party weekend with friends and family. I was the Mojito maker and they were very popular drinks. There was beer tasting, a poker tournament, eye-opening conversations around the firepit and great food. I'm very proud to see that Mark is so loved by his friends, family and co-workers. St. Patrick's Day at the Races

Cheryl and I spent the day at Santa Anita Race Track on St. Patrick's Day. This was the first time we've been here all this race season. It was a gorgeous day, the big fountain had green water, we got free t-shirts and bet on every Irish sounding horst in all 10 races. We didn't really win any money but we sure had a great day!

I forgot my camera so I don't have any pictures from the races. These pictures are from last weekend at Mark and Amanda's. They have been working for weeks re-doing their outside yards. They have torn out fences, installed new stamped concrete, planted about 500 (I am not kidding!) new plants, installed a cool firepit where the fire comes up through the sand, built big planter boxes, installed all sorts of cool lighting, lots of new sod and a special ramp for Amanda's dad that will make it easier for him to get onto the patio. All this should be complete for the big 30th birthday bash next weekend. Saturday is a huge party for Mark's friends and Sunday is for the family. I'll post pictures after the party.

Trip to Hawaii

I just returned from my first trip to Hawaii. My friend Sandra flew from South Dakota and we had a great time. We went to the flea market and got lots of trinkets, toured the North Shore and the Dole Plantation, shopped, took hula lessons, ate tons of pineapple, learned to make leis, shopped some more, took walks on the beach, danced at Duke's, drank Mai Tai's, people watched, met lots of great people and just had fun. I loved the music, the balmy nights, the beautiful beaches, great shopping and the Hawaiian people. There was lots of activity going on at all hours in Waikiki. Can't wait to go back!

I guess it's been a few weeks since I posted anything. Well, last weekend I went to stay with Phyllis and the gang in Lake Havasu. Debbie came on Saturday and we went to see what everyone is talking about in Quartzsite, Arizona. The Winter brings about 150,000+ motor homes to this area and a large percentage of those visitors sell things. It's a huge swap meet selling everything from rocks, jewelry, antiques, whatever! It took us all day to look at everything and apparently many of the sellers had left a week or so ago. It's at full capacity the last few weeks in January. Debbie and I found quite a few treasures. There is also an interesting bookstore in town that is owned by a nudist. I guess he wears a g-string when he deals with the public. Of course, I had to go and check it out but he was not in a photo mood (he was actually very rude) so my only picture is with his sign.

On Sunday the whole gang went to the Winterfest in downtown Havasu. It was another shopping experience. The weather was great all weekend, in the 80's. We had some great times watching movies, playing card games and just hanging out. Took the dogs to the dog park. Lola and Lexi don't realize they are dogs so refused to associate with those other crazy creatures. It's very rare that I get to see both Dan and Vince at the same time so that was a real delight.

Came home on Monday and got to watch Mark's dogs as they were having concrete poured in the backyard. Keely is the new addition to the family. I came home from work to mounds of stuffing all over the living room. Apparently, Keely thought I needed some new couch pillows so destroyed the ones she wanted replaced. It was a fun couple of days with 5 dogs!

This weekend I just did a day trip to Valencia to visit Rich and Maria - kid too! Saturday was Rich and Zack's birthdays. Korey had his earlier this month. I took some birthday presents purchased last week in Quartzsite that everyone thought sort of odd but took it in stride as they were from Aunt Laura and she's a bit eccentric. Sunday was spent going to church with Robert and then to Mark and Amanda's. They are busy finishing extensive work on their backyard and getting ready for Mark's 30th Birthday Party in a few weeks.

Today, Monday, I have spent doing my taxes and researching things to do in Waikiki. Sandra is coming from South Dakota on Friday and we are leaving for Hawaii early Saturday morning for a few days. Aloha!!!!

Super Bowl Weekend

Went to Sacramento for work on Thursday and Friday. The hotel where we had out meeting had some conference where everyone was really dressed to the nines. This woman was selling these hats and those of you that know me know that I love hats. Here are a few of them - they were gorgeous! Debbie came for the weekend from Arizona so I got to keep Stella (the cute puppy). Jenn and Nick had a Super Bowl party so here's a picture of the gang at the party.

Last Weekend of January 2007 - Wendy & Kim

Went to Sacramento for a labor market meeting on Thursday and then went to spend a few days with Wendy and Kim Baker. Kim's parents, Morris and Shirley were visiting from Canada and I had never met them. They are wonderful in-laws to my Wendy. Shirley is a great cook and famous for her cinnamon rolls among other delicious treats. We had a nice visit, went to Mari's basketball game and dinner on Friday. Flew home on Saturday, after locating the Stein Mart in Sacramento and finding a few treasures.

On Sunday I went to church with Robert and then drove into Glendale to see Kim Brauer who was visiting her Dad. Kim lives in East Hampton, New York and was only here for a few days so I'm so glad I got a chance to see her and George.

It was a great few days seeing friends and catching up with their busy lives and families and meeting Morris and Shirley from Canada.

Weekend in Lake Havasu

Had a great time visiting Phyllis at a fabulous house she is renting for the Winter in Lake Havasu. Check out the pool table with the leopard! Debbie and Tony came from Kingman to have dinner with us on Saturday. Did a little bit of gambling in Laughlin and enjoyed the change of scenery. Of course, Lola and Lexi went too for a visit with Buttercup. They were all about the same color as the tile floor.

It was a great picture opportunity to get these girls together. This is Kelli, Stephanie and my namesake, Laura. Stephanie and Laura are Rhonda's daughters who are pretty much all grown up. Rhonda and I have been friends for over 20 years but don't get the chance to see each other too often.

This is my first blog entry. I'm in San Jose visiting Andrew and Donna for New Year's. They have some cute kids that you can see here.

We didn't have a current photo so we found this old one on Donna's computer.
